ᴅᴇғɪɴɪᴛɪᴏɴ:
Remote sensing is a technology in which sensors is installed on aircraft or satellites to gather information about the remote location.
This information can be used for a wide range of applications, such as mapping, land use planning, mineral exploration, and disaster management.
𝙏𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙨:
There are two types of remote sensing: passive RS and active RS.
Passive remote sensing uses natural energy sources, such as sunlight, to gather information. For example, a passive remote sensor on a satellite can detect the visible and infrared light reflected by the earth's surface. This information can be used to create images and maps of the earth's surface, such as land use and vegetation cover.
Active remote sensing uses a device, such as a radar, to actively send energy to the earth's surface and measure the reflection. For example, a radar sensor on a satellite can bounce radar signals off the earth's surface and measure the reflection to create detailed images of the earth's surface, even in cloudy or other conditions that would make it difficult for a passive sensor to gather information.
Other types of remote sensing include LiDar, hyperspectral remote sensing,
multispectral remote sensing and Thermal remote sensing.
Infrared radiation is used in Thermal Remote sensing to measure temperature and detect heat signatures.
Hyperspectral remote sensing uses a wide range of different wavelengths to create detailed images with a high level of spectral resolution, which can be used to identify different types of minerals or vegetation.
A smaller range of wavelengths used in Multispectral remote sensing to create images with a lower level of spectral resolution.
LiDAR uses laser light to calculate the distance to the earth's surface and can be used to create highly detailed 3D maps of the earth's surface.
